New designers often reach out to me to find out how I’ve been able to create my ideal business. They’re often hustling, searching for their clients and doing churn and burn projects.
I know what they’re going through, because I used to do it too.
That all changed a few years ago when I modified my project-centered mindset.
Now I focus on long-term strategy for my clients – and they stay with me year after year, growing their business (and mine!)
Instead of HUSTLING to get that next client, change your mindset – what more can you do for your current clients who already know your work?
- Can you create supplementary materials
(like branded newsletters, twitter and facebook graphics)? -
Can you create and setup digital products for them
(such as branded .pdfs, downloadable videos or online courses)? - Can you setup additional accounts
(like twitter, youtube, hootsuite, etc.) that they may not feel comfortable with? - Can you provide ongoing tech/maintenance support
(via a monthly retainer package) - Can you connect them with other trusted providers
(either managed by you or not)
Think about how you can grow and evolve WITH your client.
Work from a place of serving your client – and empower them with the tools they need to be successful.
I used to worry that I wasn’t the best designer or developer. But here’s a little secret – at the end of the day, people want RELIABLE vendors they can trust with their business. There is a huge fear of the unknown – and once someone works with you – they want to hold onto you!
Once you’ve worked with a client, you become a trusted ally – and you’ll be their first go-to resource (and they’ll refer their friends to you too!)
