Great video! I am stuck at the moment on moving forward with a client who is struggling to get me content for their redesign. I’ve spoken with just about every person at the organization about what their core message would be, some kind of call to action and nothing emerges. Some of the questions you asked in this video resonated as questions I can ask to evoke something more tangible with regards to figuring out what their core message needs to be. Thank you for sharing such wonderful information!
Hi Sam – this can be one of the toughest things! Core message and content can be very difficult to obtain from organizations who aren’t clear. I always recommend getting as much content as possible before you start the project (and tie it into your contract so you’re not stuck for 6 months waiting to finish the project!).
I’m writing you-again! This video clip was inspiring and thought-provoking. It made me realize I’ve totally shifted in terms of what I want my ideal website to look like. What I wanted last summer already feels dated!
So I am still looking for a designer to execute the project start to finish. Can you recommend someone who’s work you believe in, who is moderately priced? Thank you. Julia
Hi Julia – Thanks for continuing to read! My suggestion is to find other sites that resonate with you – and look on the bottom of the site to see who created those sites and contact them. You do get what you pay for however, and it may take an investment to get exactly what you want. The better designers and developers typically book out months in advance – and they charge a living wage. One strategy might be to connect with an art school where students learn web design – you may be able to work with a student at a lower price – however, they likely aren’t as experienced. All my best!
Thanks Donnie! Yeah, pic is custom made – but you can easily create something similar. I used a pic that had space to the right, added my copy and added a subtle dark shadow to make the text pop a bit. Hope that helps!

Really interesting getting inside the head of an awesome designer!
I’m guessing the beautiful picture with the “learn more” button that matches the theme is not a widget that comes with the parallax pro theme?

Love the video case study. Such a great way to explain what we do and why a redesign is so important.
